The Four Pillars of New Hope Brisbane

4pillars.jpgAt the end of 2008 and going into 2009, Pastor Matt Prater had some time to reflect and to seek God about the future direction of New Hope Brisbane. During that time, he felt God wanted us to base New Hope Brisbane on four pillars, which have become known as The Four Pillars of New Hope Brisbane.

Simply put, they are as follows:

1. To share the Good News of Jesus and see lives transformed in Brisbane, Australia, and the World.

Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.  1 Corinthians 9:19-23

Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. Romans 12:4-6

3. To build a community that loves one another and reaches out to the poor and needy together.

He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honours God. Proverbs 14:31

All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:44-47
